Neil Ferguson comments on Covid-19 and lockdown show need for urgent public inquiry

Responding to professor Neil Ferguson's comments that the UK's coronavirus death toll could have been halved if the lockdown was introduced a week earlier, Liberal Democrat MP and leadership candidate Layla Moran said:

"These stark comments suggest that far from what we keep being told, the government made the wrong decisions at the wrong time.

"There will need to be a full, independent inquiry into the Government’s handling of this crisis, from herd immunity and the delays to lockdown to PPE shortages and the care homes scandal.

“There is strong argument for holding a rapid public inquiry now, so that lessons can be learnt to better protect lives ahead of a potential second wave this winter.”
